11 Confession Time - Anne Montminy

I have a confession to make – I don’t remember sermons! When I’m sitting in my seat listening intently I’m sure I’ll remember everything I’ve heard. Alas no, by the time I have my cuppa (and sometimes sooner) it’s all gone out the window.

However this changed on the Sunday that Owiñ compared God to a SATNAV. Interesting I thought. Since most satnavs have female voices was he saying that God is a woman? Sounded good to me but I didn’t really think that’s what he meant. What then? As I listened I learned that Owiñ’s comparison actually related to forgiveness.

When Frank and I are driving and we don’t exactly follow Rita’s directions (Rita is one of our satnavs, Pushy Polly the other) she politely tells us, “If possible please make a u-turn.” As we continue to ignore her she repeats the message and it sounds to us as if her voice becomes a bit more strident (imagination is a wonderful thing). However, once she knows that we won’t make a u-turn she doesn’t turn herself off but instead finds a new way for us to get to our destination.

God must sometimes shake his head when we go off the rails but he never switches himself off. No matter how much we ignore him, he never ignores us. And when we go astray he always forgives us. Pretty wonderful, eh? So now, when you get in your car and you switch on your Rita, or Polly or whomever, give a little thought to God. You know he is thinking of you.
